Volamel Extra, is a water-soluble nutritional emulsifier that acts synergistically with the animals’ own bile salts. Bile salt production by the liver is often deficient compromising fat and total feed digestibility. Nukamel’s nutritional emulsifiers compensate this deficiency and improve fat and feed digestibility. In this way, Volamel Extra can reduce the energy cost of the diet.

Oil and water do not mix
The intestine is a watery environment where feed is added. Feed components can be divided into water and fat soluble components. These two components do not mix. This hinders the enzyme access because fat digesting enzymes (lipase) only act on the layer between water and fat. This reduces feed digestibility and absorbability, resulting in a suboptimal animal performance.

Emulsification
Nutritional emulsifiers, like natural emulsifiers like bile salts, enhance the mixing of fatty (feed) particles into the watery environment of the gut, increasing the surface for lipase activity. Nutritional emulsifiers break down the large fat globules into very fine particles. This facilitates the access of the enzymes to the fat. In this way, fat digestion by lipase activity is enhanced. The emulsification also improves the digestibility of the other feed components because they are less encapsulated by the fat present in the diet.

This picture demonstrates the effect of Volamel Extra on a water/oil mixture. The nutritional emulsifiers increase the surface between water and fat. The pink coloured top layer clearly demonstrates the presence of water where there was only oil if no Volamel was added.

A large number of laboratory and practical experiments demonstrated that by using 500 gram per ton of the nutritional emulsifiers, Volamel Extra in poultry and swine diets, you can reduce your metabolic energy (ME) of the diet with 3%.

The improved fat digestibility also results in less sticky facials and a lower incidence of pasty vent syndrome.

Nukamel also developed water soluble additive for poultry under heat stress; Mixomel WS. Heat stress in poultry results in reduced feed intake, de-hydration through panting, suppression of the immune system, loss of electrolytes,… The new product is a combination of short and medium chained fatty acids, salts, lactose and a probiotic. The salts guarantee an optimal electrolyte balance during heat stress. The other ingredients result in a better animal performance and health .



Volamel MG is one of the active ingredients of Mixomel WS. Volamel MG is an antimicrobial premixture based on monoglycerides. The monoglycerides originate from butter oil. These molecules lower the pathogenic pressure and are an exellent energy source. In the digestive tract, the monoglycerides will be hydrolysed into medium chained fatty acids and glycerol. Medium chained fatty acids are weak acids; at the normal pH of the gut, a large part of the fatty acids are in the undissociated form. Undissociated medium chained fatty acids can penetrate through the cell membrane of gram negative bacteria. Inside the bacterial cell, the pH is higher and the fatty acids will dissociate and thereby lower the pH of the bacterial cell. The anion inhibits cell duplication and the proton causes a drop in pH.
This mechanism can balance the gut flora. The positive effect of Volamel MG is demonstrated in several trials. The below test was run in broilers. In swine,

similar results were shown.
